Ally Mackie is a writer and actor whose comedy-drama, Wonderland, was shortlisted for the BBC Studios Writers’ Academy. She has just completed filming on Stella (Finite Films, Pinzutu Films, Backscatter Films), directed by JMK winner Caroline Steinbeis, a proof of concept for her anthology series Before the Funeral. Her short film Kotti, starring Emma Appleton (Everything I Know About Love, The Witcher) has just appeared at the Imagine This film festival in New York and BAFTA qualifying Carmarthen Bay Film Festival in the UK. She’s currently co-writing a teaser for her first feature film Sweet Tooth with director Luke Brookner and is in the final stages of edits on her debut children’s novel The Devil Knows.
As an actress Ally most recently starred as Stella in her TV pilot of the same name and appeared in Punched at The Criterion Theatre. Ally has also played a young mother in BBC One’s Call the Midwife, and starred in Indie films 7.2 (Island Films), The Retreat (Jetna Productions) and The Hollow (Red Tree Films) alongside James Norton and Rose Leslie. Theatre credits include her roles as Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (The Rose Theatre Festival), Estelle in No Exit (The Park Theatre) and Salome in Salome (Barons Court Theatre).
Ally’s work is inspired by a love of black comedy and character-driven narrative.
